4 Do-it-Yourself Natural Pest Control Methods

Although pesticides and chemicals are still commonly used in pest control treatments today, the long-term health and ecological effects of these strategies has led to concern; and the urgency to develop natural pest control solutions.

If you are a home owner, in search of natural pest control methods to prevent an invasion of pests; consider these 4 natural pest control strategies:
  1. Eliminate all possible sources of food- pet food, fallen fruit, etc.
  2. Remove items that provide shelter- yard debris, trash, construction waste, etc.
  3. Encourage or introduce natural predators- A family of owls, can eat approximately 3000 rodents; in one breeding season.
  4. Use metal, concrete, or copper mesh wool to secure openings that are a 1/2 an inch or larger, to deter rodent pests from entering the home.
The goal of a natural pest control strategy, should be to eliminate pest invaders from within the home, with minimal damage or harmful effects; to the ecological balance of the environment.

  1. Maintaining a clean yard, performing regular home maintenance, and encouraging the growth of natural predators and beneficial insects; are all excellent natural methods of exterminating or preventing pest invaders.
